Gold and inlaid ebony pendant with peridot. 2017.

The client brought me her late husband's wedding ring which she wanted making into a pendant, using also her birthstone.

All the gold inlaid into the central ebony panel and setting the stone uses the gold from the ring.

Although I had given her a choice of many designs, she chose this one because, to her, it reminded her of when, shortly before he died, her husband said that they would be taking different paths in the future.

So in this design she saw the two inlays symbolising their diverging paths and the single piece cutting through them symbolised death.

The inlaid ebony panel has a satin finish and the surrounding circle is polished.

Meteorite necklace, 2015

My second meteorite piece is a necklace made for a 60th birthday present. The design is inspired by one I made in the 1980s (see below).

This one is made of white gold, inlaid with ebony and etched meteorite panels.

A lovely bluey-grey sapphire is inlaid into one of the ebony panels, echoing the colour of the meteorite.

As is often the case, the recipient was very involved in the design process and was interested to see the stages of how it was made so a series of photographs was taken throughout the making of the piece.

Four small pendants, 2015

I was asked to make four small pendants using the diamonds, gold and platinum from a family ring, and the pendants are to be given to the client's granddaughters.

In order to keep a connection between them, I decided to make them all the same, but adding the birthstone for each of the granddaughters.

In conjunction with some of the granddaughters, we decided on a fairly classic design that would not date.

The birthstones are a deep ruby, a square aquamarine, a square yellow sapphire, and a cabochon emerald.

They all have a yellow gold background with the oval bands a combination of 9 and 18 carat white gold and platinum, from the family rings.

Meteorite pendant

Meteorite pendant, 2014.

Red gold set with a piece of meteorite that is inlaid with green gold fragments and a diamond.

The meteorite was found in Siberia and shows a pronounced Widmanstätten pattern.

Only about 12% of meteorites are made of iron and often the impurities in the iron combined with millions of years in space create a crystalline structure unique to meteorite. It is revealed by etching and the light effect constantly changes as the piece is moved around.

One of the most extraordinary and challenging materials I have worked with.
