Venison, the Monarch of the Table

Published 1983 by the author.

The first full-length book in the UK dedicated to venison cookery. This was the book that started Nichola’s writing career and also her cookery demonstrations. It punched well above its weight, gaining coverage in national UK papers such as the Financial Times and also the New York Times which, for a self-published book was quite an achievement.

"... Nichola Fletcher tells these anecdotes in her stimulating new book, Venison The Monarch of the Table ... Mrs. Fletcher's book is joyful, down-to-earth and comprehensive.  There are even two recipes for what to do with the antlers ... She writes with a knowledgeable enthusiasm beyond the usual cookery book track.  Like Jane Grigson, she has an awareness of the joys and the bores of cooking." Drew Smith, The Guardian

"A mere man should not offer advice on cookery, but Nichola Fletcher's 'Venison, The Monarch of the Table' is worth it for the anecdotes alone" What's On
